Florida Radiology Consultants offers a Lung Cancer Screening Program for qualified candidates. Lung cancer screening can prolong life by detecting disease early, when it is potentially more treatable. A low-dose CT scan of the chest can detect lung cancers at relatively early stages and reduce deaths from lung cancer by as much as 20 percent, compared to screening with chest X-rays, according to a recent study by the National Lung Screening Trail (NLST). To make this program accessible to as many patients as possible, it is being offered at a discounted self-pay price. For the vast majority of patients who might be at risk for lung cancer, the FRC program is a cost-effective way to be screened. Qualified Candidates Appropriate candidates for the FRC Lung Cancer Screening Program include individuals who: • Are age 55-74, and • Currently smoke or quit smoking within the past 15 years OR • Are age 50-74, and • Currently smoke or have quit smoking, and • Have one or more of the following risk factors: - Been exposed to radon, silica, cadmium, asbestos, arsenic, beryllium, chromium, diesel fumes or nickel, or • A personal history of cancer, or • COPD or pulmonary fibrosis, or • A family history of lung cancer *Pack-years are calculated by multiplying the average number of packs of cigarettes smoked each day times the total number of years smoked. Low-Dose CT Scan: Using a low dose technique, our experts are equipped to provide patients with the earliest detection options. FRC radiologists are combining advanced scanning protocols and imaging software to greatly reduce the radiation associated with CT scans. The goal is to take full advantage of this powerful diagnostic tool while minimizing patients’ exposure to ionizing radiation.
